Quotable lines

In Ecuador there is no market for selling a small business: there are friends, cousins and lawyers. That is why many owners don't know what their business is worth.

Where the numbers come from

  • Source: Superintendencia de Compañías, Valores y Seguros, open file bi_ranking.csv. Each new company is tracked year by year through 2025.
  • “Alive” means the company filed financial statements with sales that year. If it stopped reporting, it counts as closed even if it is still operating.
  • Excludes natural persons; the data covers companies and SAS.
  • Reported profit is useful for comparing industries, not as an exact value.
  • The outlet receives the table used to calculate each figure so it can verify it.
